As Garlean rule tightened, so too did the family’s influence, expanding into vehicles, mechanical equipment, specialized tools, and the adoption of modern medicinal techniques brought by the Empire.When the Second Revolution began, it was believed that every able-bodied man of the Maeiken household had been conscripted into Garlean service. For a time, the name vanished from public records. It wasn't long, however, until it resurfaced in whispers—spoken in hushed tones in the backstreets of Kugane. The Maeiken's were no longer merchants, but a powerful syndicate, quietly controlling the magitek and medicinal trade throughout the East.By the time Doma was reclaimed in the turning of the new Era, the Maeiken name had become synonymous with dread, wrapped in rumor and misfortune. Some claimed the family had been cursed by the Kami; others insisted they had dissolved with the death of their patriarch, Taraseen Maeiken.Whether the family had perished or simply slipped into shadow remains a matter of uneasy speculation—until recently.

With Taraseen believed dead, no one could trace where the Maeiken name had resurfaced. Everywhere, yet nowhere. They had become a quiet force, steering the currents of commerce and war, shaping the future from the shadows while remaining invisible to those who might oppose them.As the Maeiken Syndicate’s influence spread, so too did rumors of massive superweapons spotted in Gyr Abania—hulking, mechanical monstrosities far more advanced than anything produced by Garlemald’s Weapons Project. Their purpose remained unclear. Some claimed they were remnants of the war, left behind by the Garleans; others believed them to be new creations, surpassing even the infamous Ruby and Emerald weapons in both power and refinement.
One thing, however, remained certain: their destruction was absolute.To this day, no one knows where these weapons came from, or who controlled them. But in every encounter, in every battle against these abominations, there was one constant: A Military Rehabilitation Shelter in Shirogane.It was here that an ex-Garlean soldier had made his livelihood. A man named Khalja—whispered of by those who sought his aid—was said to have healed both soldiers and civilians alike, using his vast knowledge of medicinal theory and magitek arts. Khalja seemed the very model of a reformed soldier: a man from humble origins in the Doman rice fields who had set aside his military past in favor of mending those shattered by war.Yet, something about the shelter’s advancements in magitek—and the frequent sightings of its employees at nearly every weapons encounter—felt far too orchestrated to be mere coincidence. The truth of Khalja’s involvement in anything beyond the shelter remains elusive, even now, when he finds himself managing an Adventurer’s Guild. But the shadows of his past linger, and the threads connecting him to these destructive weapons remain tangled in mystery.

Arsenal.
Frostfangs. A set of Twinfangs forged under Draconic flame. A masterpiece of craftsmanship seamlessly bound by a central locking shaft that grants the wielder a choice - To strike swiftly with Twinfangs, or to unleash sweeping attacks with a Polearm. Whilst in their Fang position, the blades are asymmetric in size. Sleek and sharp, the blades glisten with a frosty sheen as if tempered by Ice itself, while intricate runes of old Draconic run their length. When wielded as a Polearm, the Fangs extend into an elegant staff. Smooth and polished it allows for precise, devastating arcs.
Hantei. "I forgive you. I have faith that you'll keep everyone safe." The last words Khalja heard, softly spoken in dying breaths before heretical Judgement fell upon his family in Shirogane. Words that were uttered as a comfort, yet instead kindled a fire of bitterness and grief. It was from this forge, Hantei was made. A blade not only of finest steel, but of strongest resolve, burdened with the weight of a solemn vow: to wield it in settling the debt of a fate cruelly imposed. Hantei, Judgement, is more than a Gunblade to Khalja, it is a promise, a testament to the grief he would see righted through blood.
Khalja served as an Imperial Architectus and Pilot with the IVth Imperial Legion around the time of the Bozja Incident, and though he saw combat on the Frontline often for field repairs, his work focused more on routine maintenance and transport.
As an engineer, he was responsible for the maintenance, repair, and field modification of legion craft, often working with limited tools and under non-ideal conditions, a skill he still carries with him in civilian life. As a pilot, Khalja learned the in and outs of all types of Imperial Aircraft, how to master their flight techniques and maintenance of them. From personnel to gun ships, Khalja was an asset in flight and repairs. He learned to navigate and survive unreliable charted routes and contested frontlines with ease, developing a cautious, methodical flying style that focused on survivability and mission completion.
Given he was a conscripted man, his service did not earn him accolades or political capital, but it did grant him a knowledge of Imperial Logistics, ship design standards and procedure, a knowledge he carries with him in his profession now as an Airship Engineer.
Khalja is a learned individual with a deep fascination for the intersection of ancient and modern technologies. His particular interest lies in adapting and integrating the forgotten methods of the past into the ever-evolving tech of the present; whether it's studying Magitek- his specialist field of study- working on airships that blend arcane propulsion with mechanical design, or unearthing and deciphering Allagan artifacts, Khalja has dedicated much of his civilian life to bridging these worlds.
To him, repairing and recreating is only the tip of the iceberg, the joy of creation comes with rethinking what's possible by merging the two. Whether it's helping someone understand the intricacies of a Magitek engine, or interpretting blueprints hidden deep within Allagan ruins, Khalja is driven by curiosity and a relentless drive to learn forgotten knowledge to reshape the future.
Khalja’s expertise is not purely academic—his hands-on experience with these technologies has given him a unique ability to problem-solve in ways that others might overlook. His solutions are often unconventional, sometimes risky, but they tend to get results when others fail.
As a man of business, Khalja has made it a priority to understand the beliefs, customs and practices of major settlements and regions he frequents. That said, respect for these cultures is not always on the table.
He's learned how to read the subtle cues that define a settlement's social dynamics and will adapt his behaviour as necessary to suit his goals, but his respect for a given culture often depends on how it aligns with his own worldview. He has no qualms with exploiting local traditions when it serves his business interests, though he is careful not to burn bridges unless absolutely necessary.
The balance he has between cultural understanding and self-interest has served him, and those he's close with, well over the years, making him an astute figure in places both familiar and foreign.
Though Khalja keeps to his tight circle of allies, his travels and military history have allowed him to cultivate ties across the Star. Many of these relationships are defined by shared interests, mutual respect and exchanged favours- many of those acquaintances being among traders, adventuring guilds and even some well-respected figures in various districts, connections that allow him access to rare resources or gather valuable information when needed.

Khalja’s expertise in airship piloting and engineering is his bread and butter, but his knowledge spans far beyond that. He is a master of mechanical engineering, weapon crafting, gunsmithing, and, until recently, prosthesis design. Khalja’s Aether has always been aligned with Wind, but recently, a subtle yet undeniable frost now accompanies him, easily recognizable to those sensitive to Aether. While Wind remains dominant, a Glacial influence now manifests, giving him a calm, almost measured presence. Emotions that once flared with ease are now tempered by a cool, deliberate restraint.When deep in thought or feeling strong emotions, the air around him may cool, and frost may form on nearby surfaces—an outward sign of the internal change.

TARASEEN MAEIKEN — Father
Taraseen Maeiken was once a name whispered through the shadowed alleys of Kugane with dread, unease and fear. A man with no moral compass, his ruthless pursuit of power and profit left a trail of broken deals and blood, yet still the influence of the Maeiken syndicate stretched the Star. But in the last decade, the Syndicate- along with its ruthless leader, had faded into obscurity, as though it never existed at all. Many believed Taraseen had either died or been driven mad by the very methods that once gave him power.
Until he reappeared, walking alongside a familiar figure. Their history—rife with grief, torment, and endless deception—is too complicated to unravel. It's said their relationship remains fraught with distrust from both sides, yet there is one constant: Khalja is quick to bend to his will, no matter the dark past that haunts them both.

YVET HIRAWA — Husband
When they first met, Yvet was cold and wary of Khalja—a challenge he accepted with open arms. Through the simple persuasion of fresh Doman cuisine, Khalja earned Yvet’s trust, their friendship swiftly blossoming into love. A year later, they were wed, stepping into a new life together under a shared name.

BRYONY HIRAWA — Wife
Khalja’s relationship with Bryony was unexpected. Though they claimed to barely know one another, they soon grew inseparable, favoring long nights away from the public eye as their bond deepened into the marriage they share today. Bryony remains Khalja’s loudest and proudest supporter, ever ready to defend or aid him.

SEIKO MISTDANCER — Bonded sister
When Seiko and Khalja first met, she was aloof and careless—traits that stirred a powerful instinct in him. He felt a deep desire to protect her and foster her growth, an offer he would have extended to anyone, but especially to his own blood. In time, this was something Seiko came to claim for herself. As their bond deepened, she named Khalja her brother, and later, Boyan of the Olon tribe of Xaela. Now, Khalja serves as Seiko’s advisor in times of tension, and as a steady source of comfort and family whenever she has need of it.

KAITO WARAGI
Kaito Waragi is a presence in Khalja's life that feels both new, and strangely close. Though only recently coming into contact with those Khalja calls friends, the ease and familiarity between them suggests a shared history far deeper than either is willing to explain. They communicate effortlessly—through glances, unfinished sentences, and unspoken understanding—often leaving others feeling like outsiders to something private, and to Khalja’s friends, their closeness is abrupt and difficult to place, too intimate to have formed so quickly. Whatever binds them remains deliberately unspoken, shaping their interactions in ways others can sense but cannot name.

FRORHEL SILVERSCALES — Honored Lady
Frorhel’s history with the Whispering Wyvern is vast and… complicated. Yet one truth remains constant: Khalja was always among the first to come to her defense. Bound by her Oath, he swore himself a Glacial Knight under her protection.

RIVEN REYKHOLT — Business Affiliate
When Khalja first met Riven, he was wary of the Viera, aware of his reputation for being pragmatic and cold. What began as a business partnership—trading clientele and tobacco products—evolved into a deep friendship that rivaled Khalja's own familial ties. Over time, Khalja’s children came to call the old Hare “Grandfather,” and a brotherly bond grew between them.
